George Floyd: Charges against Derek Chauvin upgraded to felony second-degree murder

Attorney Benjamin Crump, representing George Floyd’s family, announced all four officers involved in the killing of George Floyd will been arrested and charged TODAY.

Dereck Chauvin, who held his knee on George Floyd’s neck for more than 8 minutes, now his charges have been upgraded to second-degree murder, third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter .

Former police officers Thomas Lane, Tou Thao and J Alexander Kueng are charged with aiding and abetting second-degree murder and aiding and abetting second-degree manslaughter.

“This is a bittersweet moment for the family of George Floyd”, said Benjamin Crump. “We are deeply gratified that Attorney General Keith Ellison took decisive action in this case, arresting and charging all the officers involved in George Floyd’s death and upgrading the charge against Derek Chauvin to felony second-degree murder.”

Several memorial services in honor of George Floyd are scheduled this week. One in Minneapolis on Thursday, and another one on Saturday in North Carolina where George Floyd was born both from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. A public viewing on the evening of June 8 will precede the funeral taking place in Houston, Texas, on Tuesday June 9, 2020, at 11 a.m.
