Lagos, Nigeria – Africa’s two representatives at the 2013 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup in Tahiti (Tahiti 2013), Cote d’Ivoire and Senegal, are due to taste action Wednesday when the tournament opens in Papeete, Tahiti.
PANA recalls that Senegal beat Cote d’Ivoire to retain the continental Beach Soccer Cup in May, with the two picking the tickets to fly the African flag at the biannual tournament.
The 22-26 May competition in Morocco served as the African qualifiers for the global tournament, with the two semi-final winners emerging the continent’s representatives.
African champion Senegal, playing in Group C, will open its campaign for the 18-28 Sept. FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup with a match against Ukraine.
Its second match in the group is against Iran on Friday while the final group match will be against Brazil on Sunday.
In Group D, Cote d’Ivoire will Wednesday play against Paraguay; take on Russia on Friday and play its final group match against Japan.
