From election night, Eric Adams knew that he had won the hearts of the majority of New Yorkers, who ranked him first on their ballots on Primary Day. This paved the way to him becoming the second Black mayor in a city that calls itself progressive.

In the end, after the mail-in ballots were counted, Eric Adams remained on top with a total of 40,3333 votes (50.5%) and Kathryn Garcia 39,4907 (49.5%). Interestingly, Maya Wiley remained in second place through the sixth round, before Garcia pulled ahead.
