Tripoli, Libya – The US, UK, France and Italy have expressed concern over the disruption in oil production in Libya by protesters in the last couple of months, a development that has significantly reduced the country’s oil exports.
The Libyan news agency quoted the four countries as reaffirming, in a joint statement, their support for Libya’s efforts to peacefully and quickly resolve the blockade by the protesters.
They also urged Libyans to put their national interest above all else, noting that the restoration of normalcy in the oil sector was of paramount importance if Libya is to be able to carry out its efforts to re-build a safe, stable and strong state, respectful of democracy, rule of law and human rights.
The protesters have targetted Libya’s oil fields and export terminals in the past couple of months.
