The Black Alliance for Just Immigration to host a town hall on the State of Black Immigrants

The Black Alliance for Just Immigration along with partner organizations will discuss ‘The State of Black Immigrants’ and possible directions their collective work can take on Wednesday, November 16, 2016 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Mt. Zion Church of God Zion in Manhattan.

The organizations will assess the impact of the last 50 years of immigration policy and what lessons can be drawn for the future. This gathering will be an opportunity for community members, migrant rights advocates, and elected officials to engage the major findings of the report ‘The State of Black Immigrants’ and to discuss the sort of movement and policy solutions required to address the needs of Black immigrants.

Ninaj Raoul, Executive Director, Haitian Women for Haitian Refugees

‘The State of Black Immigrants’ is a recently published report by the Black Alliance for Just Immigration (BAJI) in partnership with New York University School of Law’s Immigrant Rights Clinic. The report details a number of challenges facing Black immigrants:
The intersection of criminal justice & immigration enforcement
New immigration enforcement methods
Racial disparities in the criminal justice system
Much higher rates of deportation
