AU condemns assassination of the wife of Lesotho’s PM Thomas Thabane

African Union Commission Chairperson Moussa Faki Mahamat was shocked and saddened by the assassination of Lipolelo Alice Thabane, wife of Lesotho’s Prime Minister Thomas Thabane at Ha Masana village, in the outskirts of the capital, Maseru, on 14 June 2017.

In a statement issued by the Commission on Thursday, the Chairperson expressed the African Union’s “heartfelt condolences to the family of incoming Prime Minister Thomas Thabane, the Government and people of Lesotho.”

Mr. Mahamat has appealed for calm in this difficult time of mourning and called on the national authorities to bring the perpetrators of such heinous act to justice.

In addition, he encouraged all stakeholders to work in unity of purpose with the newly elected leaders in Lesotho.
