Anti-apartheid activist Archbishop Desmond Tutu was honored with the Award for A Lifetime of Leadership for Justice, Reconciliation and Peace during Shared Interest’s 20th Anniversary Gala on February 27, 2014 at Gotham Hall in Manhattan.
Tutu was acclaimed for his efforts in ending apartheid peacefully and establishing a just South Africa.
Other 2014 honorees include his daughter Rev. Mpho Tutu who accepted the Award for Inspiring the Next Generation. South African filmmaker and producer of “Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom” Anant Singh received the Award for advancing Social Justice through Film. Ambassador Ebrahim Rasool and Rosieda Shabodien were presented the Award for Forging Partnerships for Equality and Human Rights while Avon Products Inc. received the Award for Empowering Women in South Africa.
An after party for young professionals followed this year’s gala emceed by journalist Charlayne Hunter-Gault.
Shared interested, is a New York-based nonprofit social investment fund which mission is to mobilize resources for Southern Africa’s economically disenfranchised communities.

Le militant anti-apartheid, l’archevêque Desmond Tutu a reçu le prix « Une Vie de Leadership pour la Justice, la Réconciliation et la Paix » durant le 20e anniversaire de Shared Interest, le 27 février 2014, au Gotham Hall de Manhattan.
Tutu a été acclamé pour ses efforts en vue de mettre fin pacifiquement à l’apartheid et d’instaurer une Afrique du Sud juste.
Les autres lauréats de 2014 incluent sa fille Rev. Mpho Tutu, qui a accepté le prix « Inspirer la Prochaine Génération. » Le cinéaste sud africain et réalisateur de “Mandela : la Longue Marche vers la Liberté” Anant Singh, a reçu le prix de l’ « Avancement de la Justice Sociale à travers le Cinéma. » Le prix « Forger des Partenariats pour l’Egalité et les Droits de l’Homme » a été décerné à l’Ambassadeur Ebrahim Rasool et Rosieda Shabodien tandis que Avon Products Inc. a reçu le Prix pour l’ “Autonomisation des Femmes en Afrique du Sud.”
Un « after » ciblant les jeunes professionnels a suivi le gala de cette année animé par la journaliste Charlayne Hunter-Gault.
Shared Interest est un fonds d’investissement social à but non lucratif basé à New York qui s’est donné pour mission de mobiliser des ressources pour les communautés économiquement défavorisées d’Afrique australe.
