Alfa Barrie’s family held a press conference after a memorial at Democracy Prep in Harlem on May 23, 2023.
Alfa Barrie’s uncle Amadou Diallo who thanked the community and the media for helping with the search stated that the family wanted closure and clarity. Diallo announced that the family would conduct an independent autopsy to know how Alfa Barrie died.
They have also been working on getting Alfa Barrie’s father, currently in Sierra Leone, to New York for his son’s burial.
A vigil where Democracy Prep students and staff shared what Alfa Barrie meant to them followed the press conference.
