The African immigrant community gathered at the Futa Islamic Center to offer condolences and pray for the 11-year-old Alfa Barrie, who went missing on Friday, May 12, 2023, and whose lifeless body surfaced on the Hudson River on May 20, 2023.
Local leaders, City and Democracy Prep officials, including Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson, attended the prayer service.
While a funeral can’t be scheduled because of an ongoing autopsy, a memorial and vigil are planned on May 23 at 4 p.m. at Democracy Prep, Alfa Barrie’s school located on 133rd Street between Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Blvd and Frederick Douglass Blvd.
