A’lelia Walker and Richelieu Dennis rename West 136th Street as Madam CJ Walker & A’ Lelia Walker Way

A’lelia Walker Bundles, Great-great Granddaughter of Madam CJ Walker and Richelieu Dennis, CEO of Sundial Brands and Essence Magazine hosted the street renaming and sign unveiling ceremony of West 136th Street as Madam CJ Walker & A’ Lelia Walker Way on July 20, 2019 at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture in Harlem.

Madam CJ Walker was an entrepreneur, philanthropist, and activist living from 1867 to 1919. She is the first self-made American female millionaire and the wealthiest African American woman of her time, making her fortune by inventing and selling a line of African-American hair products and cosmetics.
