Tripoli, Libya – A Spokesperson for the Libyan National General Congress, Omar Hameidan, on Monday said the abduction, by Americans, of Abou Anas al-Libi was a violation of Libya’s sovereignty.

Wanted by the US for alleged involvement in the attacks on the American embassies in Tanzania and Kenya in 1998, Al-Libi was abducted Saturday in Tripoli by an American military unit without authorization from Libya.

The parliamentarian said the Libyan authorities had maintained contact with the American government to ascertain the reasons for the abduction.

PANA recalls that the Libyan Parliament’s Commission on Foreign Affairs had ruled that the American intelligence services must seek and obtain approval before operating in Libyan territory.
