The Sudanese Foreign Minister, Ibrahim Ghandour, has said that he and seven other African Foreign ministers will discuss with the UN Security Council (UNSC), on June 9, the position of African countries opposing the International Criminal Court (ICC).
The African committee on ICC was formed by the African summit of Johannesburg, South Africa, last year.
Local Sudanese newspapers, including Al-Sudani daily, quoted Ghandour as saying that the Security Council would first hear a report by ICC Prosecutor-General, Fatu Bensouda, and then would hear the African committee report on its position towards the ICC.
The African Union has called on its member states to disregard the ICC arrest warrant against President Omar Bashir, saying the court has become politicized as it targets only African heads of state.
The ICC issued a warrant of arrest against President Bashir on alleged war crimes in the restive region of Darfur, near the borderlines with Chad, and Central African Republic.
The Sudanese government argued that the court’s decision is politically motivated and vowed to disregard it.
