Kambale Musavuli at the 6th Annual Congo in Harlem opening night
By Isseu Diouf CampbellThe 6th Annual Congo in Harlem, an annual series of films and events highlighting Congolese filmmakers and culture, opened with Sister Oyo, a fiction film by Monique Phoba, on October 19, 2014 at Maysles Cinema in Harlem.
The event, which featured Congolese food and live music from Isaac Katalay and the Life Long Project, was also a call to action and an awareness campaign about the “deadliest conflict since World War II”.
“I stopped saying that this is an international community issue,” Kambale Musavuli, the Friends of the Congo spokesperson comments.
“I can’t wait for the international community to do something about it after 6 million people already died in Congo. If the international community wanted to do something about it, it would have done it. This is more a call to Africans, “ Musavuli added.
The Democratic Republic of Congo has been the scene of conflicts for almost two decades.
