The 24th New York African Film Festival opened this year at the Film Society of Lincoln Center in Manhattan with the U.S. premiere of award-winning South African director Akin Omotoso’s Vaya, a moving film about three strangers on a train to the city whose lives eventually collide.
Several directors and actors including Akin Omotoso, William Mbaye, MaameYaa Boafo, Hoji Fortuna, Ferid Boughedir, Mariama Diallo and Ekwa Msangi attended the film screening followed by a Q&A and a reception.
The New York African Film Festival presented 25 feature-length films and 27 short films from 25 countries—celebrated African films from the continent and the diaspora. The festival ran throughout May at Film Society of Lincoln Center, Lehman College, Maysles Cinema, and the Brooklyn Academy of Music’s BAMcinématek.
