Bata, Equatorial Guinea (PANA) – Cote d’Ivoire beat on Sunday Ghana 9-8 on penalties, after both teams played goalless at full and extra time, to win the 30th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations.
Goalkeeper Barry Kopa was the hero of the match for Cote d’Ivoire after stopping Ghana goalkeeper’s spot kick and also converting his own shot.
It was Cote d’Ivoire’s second Africa Cup of Nations title following the first one in 1992, which was also won on penalties at the expense of Ghana.
The victory also marked the second Nations Cup title for Frenchman Herve Renard, the Cote d’Ivoire’s coach, who won the 2012 title with Zambia.
