Ziguinchor, Senegal (PANA) – On the occasion of the Day for the African Child, celebrated June 16, every year, children in Casamance, southern Senegal, demanded on Monday from the Senegalese government adequate protection, saying “We deserve appropriate protection for a brighter future.”
In a statement to mark the occasion at a rally in Ziguinchor, their spokesperson, Hadja Aissatou Aidara, “We demand an organized State which takes into account the interest of the children providing them with appropriate protection, free health coverage for those aged between 0 and 12.”
“We don’t want more child labour; no more physical violence and no more street begging because each child has a right to exist.”
The rally was co-sponsored by the non-governmental organization, Federation Dumbaya Kagnalene and the charity organization, Childfund.
