Zambia: UN flag to fly at half-mast Tuesday in honour of President Sata

Lusaka, Zambia (PANA) – The United Nations flag will fly at half-mast worldwide on Tuesday in honour of Zambia President Michael Sata who died on October 28, 2014.

According to a statement issued Sunday by the Zambian Mission to the UN in New York, the UN Protocol and Liaison Service disclosed that the flag of the UN would be lowered to half-mast at all its offices worldwide on November 11, the day the remains of the late President will be buried.

Diplomatic staff at the Zambian Mission and other dignitaries will witness the lowering of the flag at the UN Headquarters.

The Protocol and Liaison Service further informed the Zambian Mission that flags of all the 193-Member States would not fly on Tuesday in honour of President Sata.

The UN General Assembly on October 30, held a special tribute session for President Sata at which Member States praised the legacy of the departed Head of State.

President Sata died on October 28, at the age of 77, and will be buried on November 11, in the Zambian capital, Lusaka, at a ceremony to be attended by nine African Heads of State.
