Mohammed Ali’s gloves fetch over US$800,000

New York, US  – Boxing legend Mohammad Ali might be ill, but his fighting gloves are continuing to fetch good money.

At a public auction in New York, US, the gloves worn by Ali – who was then known as Cassius Clay – as he faced Sonny Liston in the ring on February 25, 1964 fetched US$836,500.

The auction took place almost 50 years exactly from the day of the fight when Ali won his first Heavyweight Championship.

According to the online fightnews.com, the gloves were purchased by a collector who wished to remain unidentified.

Ali, who is now 72, was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Syndrome in 1984.
