Dar es Salaam, Tanzania (PANA) – Uganda’s Education ministry has issued an order banning the possession of mobile phones by students in the country’s schools.
According to Pyramid Research’s daily news update, the ministry said that no student shall be allowed to possess a mobile phone in school for whatever reason.
In its statement, the ministry cited a number of issues, including the use of mobile phones during exams and allegations that they could be used to encourage the use of drugs at schools.
It also claimed that “young females cannot be protected effectively if there is completely no control of mobile phone usage in schools.”
The ministry has instructed schools to set up payphones to allow pupils to contact parents if necessary.
