Tunis, Tunisia (PANA) – Despite the concern of Tunisian authorities about the rising number of people fleeing the ongoing fighting in Libya, the common border of the two countries was temporarily closed Friday due to a chaotic situation at Ras Jadir border post, Tunisian security sources said.
Political sources in Tunis, however, explained that Tunisian President Moncef Marzouki was against the decision because closure of the border could spark a new crisis.
The anxiety of Tunisian authorities is about the negative impact that the surge of Libyan refugees crossing over the border at Ras Jadir could cause on the security in Tunisia.
A few days ago Tunisia’s Foreign minister suggested closure of the border in order to check a possible inflow of arms and infiltration of terrorists into Tunisia.
