Khartoum, Sudan (PANA) – The ceasefire deal struck in Ethiopia Friday night by the warring parties in South Sudan has taken effect as of Saturday night, according to South Sudan’s Defence Minister Kuol Myang.
Gen. Myang announced the development in a statement to Sudan’s independent daily newspaper, Al-Taghyeer, on Sunday.
Myang told the paper on telephone that they have received orders from President Salva Kiir Mayardit for immediate cessation of hostilities with the South Sudanese rebels, led by former Vice President Riek Machar.
The Defence Minister called upon the rebel fighters to also observe the ceasefire and to continue the current negotiations in Addis Ababa for reaching a peaceful settlement to the conflict to allow the displaced people to return to their homes.
In addition to the ceasefire, the agreement provides for deployment of monitors to supervise the truce, and formation of a transitional government before the writing of a constitution and organisation of fresh elections in South Sudan.

Khartoum, Soudan (PANA) – L’accord de cessez-le -feu, conclu vendredi soir à Addis-Abeba en Éthiopie par les parties belligérantes au Soudan du Sud, a pris effet à compter de samedi soir, a indiqué le ministre de la Défense du Soudan du Sud, M. Kuol Myang.
Le général Myang a annoncé ce développement dans un communiqué remis dimanche à un journal quotidien indépendant du Soudan, “Al-Taghyeer”.
Il s’est adressé au journal au téléphone pour annoncer que les forces combattantes ont reçu des ordres du président Salva Kiir pour cesser immédiatement les hostilités avec les rebelles sud-soudanais dirigés par l’ancien vice-président, M. Riek Machar.
Le ministre de la Défense a appelé les combattants rebelles à observer le cessez-le-feu et aussi à poursuivre les négociations en cours à Addis-Abeba pour parvenir à un règlement pacifique du conflit, afin de permettre aux personnes déplacées de retourner dans leurs foyers.
En outre, l’accord prévoit le déploiement d’observateurs pour superviser la trêve, la formation d’un gouvernement de transition avant la rédaction d’une Constitution et l’organisation de nouvelles élections au Soudan du Sud en 2015.
