Senegalese Diaspora Returns to Polls to Secure PASTEF a Majority in the National Assembly

On November 17, 2024, seven months after Senegalese citizens elected Bassirou Diomaye Faye as the 5th President of Senegal, they returned to the polls for legislative elections, aiming to give the president’s political party, PASTEF, a majority in the National Assembly to implement its agenda.

Despite a lower turnout compared to the presidential elections, PASTEF dominated the polls both within Senegal and abroad.

In the 18 U.S. states where the Senegalese Diaspora cast their votes, Ousmane Sonkos’ political PASTEF emerged far ahead with 3,477 votes, followed by the Jàmm ak Njariñ coalition, led by former Prime Minister Amadou Ba, with 367 votes. The Samm Sa Kaddu coalition, headed by Barthelemy Dias, received 116 votes, and Takku Wallu Senegal, led by former President Macky Sall, garnered only 67 votes.
