Members of the Senegalese diaspora cast their vote in Harlem during the legislative elections held on July 31st, 2022, in Manhattan, Bronx, Brooklyn, and Queens.
Despite an overwhelming vote for the opposition Yewwi Askan Wi led by Ousmane Sonko, Benno Bokk Yaakaar will lead the Senegalese National Assembly thanks to candidate Pape Diop’s single seat.
Pape Diop, who campaigned as an opposition member, joined President Macky Sall’s party to avoid a so-called “deadlock” in the country.
