NYC Small Business Services Commissioner Gregg Bishop celebrated 10 years of Small Business Saturday with a corridor tour of Myrtle Avenue in Brooklyn on November 30, 2019.
With retail e-commerce sales amounting to 547 billion in 2019, Bishop did what he is hoping more New-Yorkers would do which is support the small brick & mortar stores instead of shopping online.
Commissioner Bishop met and shopped with the owners of 21 Tara, Green in BKLYN and Pipsqueak Shoppe.
“The ease of getting the things we want at the click of a button might seem harmless, but it has major consequences for local small businesses, said Commissioner Bishop. “Shopping online takes away from the livelihood of local residents and strips the community of its extraordinary businesses.”
New York City counts 230,000 businesses that are employing 3.69 million people.
