Kigali, Rwanda (PANA) – A nine-member Senegalese delegation has wrapped up a two-day visit to Rwanda to study the progress made by the country in the fight against gender-based violence.
During the trip, the delegation, which included police officers and officials of the Ministry of Home Affairs, visited the “Isange One Stop centre”, a hospital run by the Rwandan police which offers various services to women and children who are victims of gender violence.
The visitors also held meetings with several Rwandan government officials to exchange views and experiences in efforts to gender-based crime.
“We need to adopt appropriate strategies in a bid to focus efforts and services to anticipate on gender-based violence,” Mrs Aissatou Mbaye, an official serving at the Senegalese Home Affairs Ministry, declared.
According to a 2010 health and demography survey conducted by the Rwandan institute of statistics, more than half of its women aged between 15 and 49 have been victims of gender-based violence.
