New York State Governor Kathy Hochul made the official announcement on August 26, 2021 at the State Office Building in Harlem that she picked NY State Senator Brian Benjamin to be the state’s lieutenant governor, the highest officer of state after the governor.
Several Black leaders and activists including Reverend Al Sharpton and Hazel Dukes attended the event.
Gov. Kathy Hochul climbed the ladder to become governor after independent investigators found that Governor Andrew Cuomo sexually harassed multiple women, violating state and federal Laws.
Brian Benjamin was an active member of the Harlem community and a State Senator since 2017.
