Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari, on Monday resumed duties after his long vacation, his Media Adviser, Mr Femi Adesina, said in a statement released in Abuja.
According to Mr Adesina, in compliance with Section 145 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), the President has formally transmitted letters to the Senate and the House of Representatives, intimating the National Assembly “that I have resumed my functions as the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria with effect from Monday, March 13, 2017, after my vacation.”
Meanwhile, Buhari met with his deputy, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, inside the President’s office at the Presidential Villa, in Abuja.
Osinbajo arrived for the meeting at about 12 noon shortly after the President arrived in his office for the first time since his sojourn in London.
President Buhari returned to the country on Friday, after spending 50 days in the United Kingdom, for health reasons.
He, however, asked Osinbajo to carry on in acting capacity all through the weekend to enable him to have more rest.
While Buhari was away in the UK, Osinbajo was the Acting President.

Le président nigérian, Muhammadu Buhari, a repris ses fonctions lundi après ses longues vacances, a déclaré son conseiller en charge des médias, M. Femi Adesina, dans un communiqué publié à Abuja.
Selon M. Adesina, en application de l’article 145 de la Constitution de 1999 (telle que modifiée), le président a officiellement transmis des lettres au Sénat et à la Chambre des représentants en indiquant à l’Assemblée nationale que: «j’ai repris mes fonctions de président de la République Fédérale du Nigeria à compter du lundi 13 mars 2017, après mes vacances”.
Pendant ce temps, Buhari a rencontré son adjoint, le Pr Yemi Osinbajo, à l’intérieur du bureau du président à la villa présidentielle à Abuja. Osinbajo est arrivé à la réunion vers 12h peu de temps après que le président est arrivé à son bureau pour la première fois depuis son séjour à Londres.
Le président Buhari est revenu au pays vendredi, après avoir passé 50 jours au Royaume-Uni, pour des raisons de santé. Il a cependant demandé à Osinbajo de continuer en tant qu’adjoint pendant tout le week-end pour lui permettre de se reposer davantage.
Lorsque Buhari était au Royaume-uni, Osinbajo avait été désigné président par intérim.
