Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, on Tuesday said that the federal government is on the verge of securing repatriation of the country’s 300 million pounds looted funds from Jersey Island.
Towards this, Onyeama said, President Muhammadu Buhari will soon meet with Western countries towards removing barriers causing the delay in repatriating looted funds.
He was speaking during a media dialogue on the first anniversary of President Buhari’s administration which falls later this week.
Giving an insight into why Nigeria’s stolen money stashed away in Jersey Island has not been repatriated, he said Jersey Island decided to follow a legal procedure in repatriating the money, adding that the government is working on the process of bringing it back.
Onyeama emphasized that “repatriation of stolen fund is something that takes time because very often, you have to have an idea; you have to work on it.”
