Lagos, Nigeria (PANA) – Nigeria’s regulatory National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has said it plans to spend 68 billion naira (US$423.5 million) to finance the digital switch over, since it intends to switch off from analogue television transmission from 17 June 2014.
“There are concrete collaborations with key industry stakeholders who are determined to making sure that the digital switch over (DSO) becomes a huge success and Jos has been selected as the switch over city test,” the private BusinessDay newspaper Tuesday quoted NBC Director General Emeka Mba as saying.
Mr. Mba explained that the choice of Jos, capital of northern Plateau state, was because the city boasts of the best complements and factors necessary to determining the success of the DSO.
“With economic activities booming ceaselessly in Jos coupled with the existence of a large number of broadcast institutions, the city would be an effective road map to ascertain basic things which will be vital for other cities,” he said.
