This first death was expected, the same way we knew that Coronavirus would make it to New York City sooner or later.
The victim is an elderly woman with advanced emphysema, a long-term, progressive disease of the lungs that primarily causes shortness of breath due to over-inflation of the alveoli (air sacs in the lung).
She was admitted to the hospital last week and had been in critical condition ever since.
