Gaborone, Botswana (PANA) – Zimbabweans living in Botswana now have a new option to send their remittances home, following the entrance of BotswanaPost, a new competitor in the money transfer market.
BotswanaPost launched a new money transfer facility Wednesday, as part of the parastatal’s plans to diversify its services portifolio.
“This offers opportunity for many Zimbabweans who reside in Botswana to send remittances to their loved ones back home on a nominal fee,” said Lebogang Bok, head of communications at BotswanaPost.
BotswanaPost’s first inter-personal money transfer corridor with neighbouring Zimbabwe is expected to leverage on ZimPost’s 220-post office network and BotswanaPost’s 125-post office footprint across the country.
According to BotswanaPost, the service will be offered through the Universal Post Union (UPU) managed by international financial system (IFS).
Botswana has both legal and illegal foreign workers from Zimbabwe who regularly transfer money to Zimbabwe.
