Murid Islamic Community in America marks the 36th Bamba Day in NYC

On July 28, 2024, the Murid Islamic Community in America (MICA) celebrated Shaykh Ahmadu Bamba Day with a march from 116th Street to the State Office Building, led by Serigne Mame Mor Mbacké, the grandson of the Murid brotherhood’s founder.

At the State Office Building Plaza, officials addressed the gathered audience. Senator Cordell Cleare presented Pape Dramé, MICA’s President, with a proclamation recognizing his leadership and contributions to the community. Representing Senegal’s Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko, Chief of Protocol Djibril Gueye Ndiaye was also in attendance.

The event concluded with Serigne Mame Mor Mbacké praying for the audience after offering words of wisdom to the new immigrants from Senegal, particularly those who took the Nicaragua route, advising them to follow the rules of their new country. After his words of wisdom, Serigne Mame Mor Mbacké prayed for the audience.
