Bamako, Mali (PANA) – The Malian government, represented by its ministry of foreign affairs, the representatives of the armed movements and those of the international mediation team, led by Algeria, signed on Friday the peace and reconciliation agreement, agreed on 1 March in Algiers by most of the concerned actors.
The Coordination of Azawad Movement (CMA), which accepted in principle the deal on Thursday in Algiers, did not, however, sign the document, saying that the document did not take into consideration some of their concerns.
The ceremony was held in the presence of several African heads of State, including the Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe, also current chairman of the African Union, President John Dramani Mahama of Ghana, incumbent chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), President Paul Kagame of Rwanda and Nigeria’s outgoing president Goodluck Jonathan, as well as several representatives of international organizations.
Speaking after the signing of the agreement, the representatives of the signatory movements and the populations of northern Mali reaffirmed their full approval for the deal and said the recommendations must be religiously implemented.
They urged the CMA to join the agreement for the interest of Mali.
