The parents of Keyon Harrold Jr., Keyon Harrold Sr. and Kat Rodriguez, nationally renowned civil rights and personal injury attorney Ben Crump and Reverend Al Sharpton held a news conference on Monday, January 11, 2021 calling for the boycott of the Arlo Soho Hotel. They accused hotel management of enabling Miya Ponsetto, who attacked 14-year-old Keyon Harrold Jr., accusing him of stealing her cell phone.
They believe Arlo Hotel was biased in the way personnel handled the incident by questioning the teen and not Ponsetto, who was not even a guest at the time of the incident.
She is seen in the video instructing the manager of the hotel to “take the case off. That’s mine.” The manager is then seen heading to Keyon Harrold Jr., and asking him what his background was before Miya Ponsetto decided to take matters into her own hands.
The cellphone she was accusing Keyon Harrold Jr of stealing was later found in an Uber.
Miya Ponsetto was arrested in California and brought to New York to face charges, but was later released. She is to appear in Manhattan Criminal Court on March 29th.
The press conference was held at City Hall Park, in Manhattan.
