On September 17, 2024, just weeks after Black women in Harlem pledged their support for Kamala Harris, Harlem resident Shatic Mitchell gathered Black men in the community at The Renaissance Hotel to encourage them to vote for Harris.

An increasing number of Black voters, particularly men, have grown frustrated by unmet promises from Democratic candidates and are showing interest in a shift toward the Republican Party.

Several prominent Harlem Democrats, including co-organizer and district leader William Allen, Manhattan Democratic Party Chair Keith Wright, his son and candidate for Harlem’s 70th Assembly District Jordan Wright, Senator Cordell Cleare, Senator Robert Jackson, Assemblymember Al Taylor, Pastor Brian Scott, Ny Whitaker, Iesha Sekou, district leader Wilma Brown, and Councilmember Yusef Salaam—whom Donald Trump once called for execution when he was wrongfully convicted in the Central Park jogger case—spoke at the event.
