Despite the recent withdrawal of some foreign airlines from Nigeria due to the economic recession, Ethiopian Airlines (ET), the largest and leading pan-African airline, Tuesday said it would continue its scheduled operations in Nigeria.
Speaking in Lagos at an event marking the airline’s 70th anniversary and 56 years of business in Nigeria, ET area manager Solomon Begashaw said it would soon embark on the training of Nigerian pilots.
“As a veteran pan-African carrier, it has always been our source of pride to serve our beloved continent, Africa, both in good and bad times,” said Begashaw. “Our presence in Nigeria dates back to the 1960’s, same time the Federal Republic of Nigeria got independence. Ethiopian has been part of Nigeria’s historic growth and always considers itself as a partner in the history and growth of Nigeria as a country.”
Currently, Ethiopian serves travellers from four Nigerian airports of Lagos, Abuja, Enugu and Kano.
