The Eid al-Fitr, or Korité, was celebrated throughout Senegal on Wednesday, April 10, 2024, marking the end of the blessed month of Ramadan.
The Coordination of Muslims in Senegal (CMS) announced this on Monday, April 8, 2024. This decision was made after the meeting of the CMS’s Crescent Moon Observation Commission (COCL), which confirmed the absence of moon visibility. This date coincides with the one chosen in several countries worldwide, including the United States, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Egypt, and France, where this year’s Ramadan lasted 30 days.
In Senegal, it is rare to see a unified celebration of Eid al-Fitr. The announcement generated anticipation and enthusiasm among the Muslim community in Senegal, which marked this important religious festival with traditional rituals such as the two rak’ah prayers and the donation of “Zakat al-Fitr” to the needy.
Eid al-Fitr holds a special significance for Muslims, symbolizing the end of fasting and the celebration of generosity and solidarity towards the less fortunate. It is a moment of joy and sharing where families come together to celebrate and express their gratitude to God.
