Lagos, Nigeria (PANA) – Mostafa Al-Gamel of Egypt has smashed the African Hammer Record, according to world athletics governing body, IAAF.
According to a statement posted on the IAAF official website, Al-Gamel added 66 centimetres to the African record on Friday, throwing a world-leading 81.29 metres at a competition in the Egyptian capital, Cairo.
Al-Gamel, 25, added more than three metres to his previous best of 77.73 metres, set last year.
In breaking the African record of 80.63 metres, set by South Africa’s Chris Harmse in 2005, Al-Gamel also surpassed the Egyptian record of 78.21 metres, set last year by compatriot Hassan Mohamed Mahmoud.

Lagos, Nigeria (PANA) – L’Egyptien Mostafa Al-Gamel a pulvérisé le record d’Afrique du marteau, vendredi, après un jet de 81,29 mètres établi lors d’une compétition organisée au Caire (la capitale), a annoncé l’instance dirigeante de l’athlétisme mondial, (IAAF) sur son site oficiel.
A 25 ans, Al-Gamel a ajouté plus de trois mètres à sa précédente meilleure performance qui était de de 77,73 mètres, établie l’année dernière.
En battant le record d’africain qui était de 80,63 mètres, établi par le Sud-africain Chris Harmse en 2005, Al-Gamel a également battu le record d’Egypte qui était de 78,21 mètres, enregistré l’an passé par son compatriote Hassan Mohamed Mahmoud.
