Introduced by one of the Exonerated Five Raymond Santana, Dr. Yusef Salaam, set to represent New York City Council District 9, addressed family members, friends, and supporters during a watch party held on November 7, 2023, at Lorraine’s Place.
Arrested at 15 years old for a crime he didn’t commit, he came out of prison seven years later ‘Better not bitter,” and dedicated to fighting injustice and serving his community.
And on election night, Dr. Yusef Salaam wanted everyone to know, “When they built the fire to consume us, they forgot the owner of the heat.”
Dr. Salaam will replace Kristin Richardson Jordan.
