On February 28, 2024, Councilmember Yusef Salaam was officially inaugurated by Judge Jeanine Johnson at The City College of New York in Harlem.
Yusef Salaam, one of the Exonerated Five—a group of young Black and Latino boys who were wrongfully arrested and convicted for the assault and rape of Trisha Meili—successfully won the elections for Council District 9 last November.
Several city officials, including Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, Council Speaker Adrienne Adams, and Public Advocate Jumaane Williams, attended the event.
