Harlemites held a vigil on the plaza of the State Office Building on May 17, 2023, a day after Bill Perkins died in his Harlem home. He was 74 years old.
Perkins, who was very active in the community, served Harlem at the New York City Council and State Senate from 1998 to 2021.
Perkins stood behind the now Exonerated Five when they were accused and convicted of the assault and rape of Trisha Meili in Central Park.
