Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso (PANA) – Thousands of demonstrators took Saturday to the streets of Burkina’s capital, Ouagadougou, and the western city of Bobo-Dioulasso to show their support for the electoral code which has banned pro-Compaoré officials from taking part in the next elections in October.
“The electoral code, passed with a large majority of members of the National Transitional Council (NTC, Parliament), and promulgated into law by the president, must be applied fully, as the will of the people’s sovereignty,” said a spokesperson for the political parties and former opposition chieftain, François W. Ouédraogo, at the Nation’s Square in Ouagadougou, the scene of popular uprising that ousted the Blaise Compaoré regime in October last year.
The MPs of the National General Congress (NGC), the interim Parliament, voted on the electoral code early April.
