Gaborone, Botswana (PANA) – The Botswana foreign affairs ministry said on Monday that the Government had taken a decision to render financial assistance to Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone to assist them in the fight against the disease.
“It is hoped that this humanitarian gesture will go a long way in supporting the deployment of resources and expertise required to fight and eventually eradicate the dreadful virus,” it said.
In addition, Botswana has established a bank account to receive financial assistance to alleviate the plight of internally- and externally-displaced Palestinians as a result of on-going conflict between Israel and the Hamas movement in the Gaza.
“The account, established in response to the United Nations appeal for the plight of Palestinians in Gaza will receive monetary donations from the Government of Botswana, business entities and the general public,” said the ministry.
Meanwhile, government has already put out a begging bowl, appealing to organizations to make contributions to the account.
“It is our hope that there will be a lasting ceasefire in the conflict which will lead to a permanent political resolution between Israel and Palestine,” it added.

Gaborone, Botswana (PANA) – Le Botswana a étendu son assistance humanitaire aux pays frappés par le virus Ebola, selon son ministère des Affaires étrangères qui a déclaré lundi que le gouvernement avait pris la décision d’apporter une aide financière à la Guinée, au Liberia et à la Sierra Leone afin de les aider dans la lutte contre la maladie.
“Il est à espérer que ce geste humanitaire fera un long chemin dans le soutien au déploiement des ressources et de l’expertise nécessaires pour combattre et finalement éradiquer le terrible virus”, a indiqué le ministère.
En outre, le Botswana a mis en place un compte bancaire pour recevoir une aide financière pour améliorer le sort des Palestiniens de l’intérieur – et de l’extérieur – déplacés en raison du conflit en cours entre Israël et le Hamas dans la Bande de Gaza.
“Le compte, créé en réponse à l’appel des Nations unies pour le sort des Palestiniens dans la Bande de Gaza, va recevoir des dons en argent du gouvernement du Botswana, des entités d’affaires et du grand public», a déclaré le ministère.
Pendant ce temps, le gouvernement a déjà mis en place une sébile, en faisant appel à des organisations de verser des contributions dans le compte.
“Nous avons bon espoir qu’il y aura un cessez-le-feu durable dans le conflit qui conduira à un règlement politique permanent entre Israël et la Palestine,” a-t-il ajouté.
