Curitba, Brazil (PANA) – Of the five African teams featuring in the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, only two national coaches — Nigeria’s Stephen Keshi and Ghanaian Appiah Akwesi — are there with their countries’ national teams.
The other three African teams, Cote d’Ivoire, Algeria and Cameroon, all have foreign coaches.
The two coaches and their teams play on Monday with Nigeria taking on Iran, led by Carlos Queiroz, and Ghana playing against the US.
Nigeria’s coach, Keshi, is not new in that competition. He was at the World cup with the “Super Eagles” in 1994 and 1998 as a player.
Sixteen years later, he is back to the competition as coach.
As for the Ghanaian coach Appiah, he is taking part in his first World Cup although Ghana is participating in its third finals — in 2006 and 2010, when Ghana reached the quarter-finals.
