President Obama along with former presidents Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton, King Family members, coalition members and dignitaries echoed Dr. Martin Luther King’s message of freedom, peace and social justice for all on the stairs of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington DC on August 28, 2013.
Thousands attended the Let the Freedom Ring Commemoration and Call to Action event, which ended the weeklong celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the March for freedom of 1963 where Dr. King made his famous speech “I have a dream”.
Actor Jamie Foxx who promised to get more involved in the fight for social justice after his encounter with Harry Belafonte at the Image Awards earlier this year called his peers to action.
“What we need to do now is, the young folks to pick it up now so when we are 87 years talking to the other young folks we can say it was me, Will Smith, Jay Z, Kanye, Alicia Keys, Kerry Washington, the list goes on and on….”
An interfaith prayer service held at Shiloh Baptist Church preceded the event.
