The Brooklyn Museum exhibition ‘A Haunted Capital’ showcases an poignant depiction of working-class life in the Rust Belt community of Braddock, Pennsylvania, the hometown of photographer Latoya Ruby Frazier.
The black-and-white images are striking, focusing alternatively on meditative and penetrating expressions of loved ones as well as distinctive local town sites. This juxtaposition of the two creates in Frazier’s photos a backdrop of the home and streets through which she displays the means in which she grew up.
Ultimately, ‘A Haunted Capital’ evokes a sense of desertion and disenchantment in the former Pennsylvanian steel mill town, sentiments that make Frazier’s work both alarming and hard to turn one’s eyes away.
The Brooklyn Museum exhibition ends on August 11, 2013.

La mission de la fondation est de préserver l’œuvre de Gordon Parks, photographe autodidacte, compositeur et auteur, et de la rendre disponible au public à travers des expositions, des livres, et les médias électroniques.
