Millions of Muslims celebrate Eid al-Adha today!

Millions of Muslims around the world are celebrating today the “Festival of the Sacrifice” also called Eid al-Adha in Arabic.

Eid al-Adha commemorates Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son to prove his devotion to God. During the celebration an animal, usually a sheep is sacrificed.

In West Africa Eid al-Adha is also called Tabaski, and is one of children’s favorite holidays because of the feast following the Morning Prayer and the treats they receive in the form of money.

Eid al-Adha comes two months after Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of Ramadan, the holy month of fasting.
