Senator Cordell Cleare hosted a two-day Juneteenth celebration that started on June 18, 2022, with a breakfast and press conference at the Harlem Heritage Tourism & Cultural Center.

Several leaders, including Assemblyman Al Taylor, Imam Pasha of Masjid Malcolm Shabazz, Street Corner Ressources founder Iesha Sekou, Minister Arthur Muhammad, Mister Harlem, and Manhattan Deputy Borough President Keisha Sutton-James were present.

Senator Cordell Cleare reminded the audience of the importance of Juneteenth, and the challenges African Americans who have yet to receive reparations from the US government are still facing.

The 29th Annual Juneteenth Parade organized by Masjid Malcolm Shabazz followed the press conference.

The June 18 festivities also included a cookout on 116th Street and Malcolm X Boulevard with a distribution of free meals to the Harlem community.

On June 19, 2022, Senator Cleare raised the African Liberation flag for the first time at the Adama Clayton Powell State Office Building with assembly members Michaelle C. Solages, Chantel Jackson, and Clyde Vanel.
