The Schomburg Center Literary Festival returned on June 18, 2022, inside the center and outdoors on 135th Street between Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Boulevard and Malcolm X Boulevard with authors of African descent from across the globe and publications that celebrate Black history and culture.

The free annual outdoor literary festival featured a children’s corner, author readings, panel discussions, a marketplace, and workshops ranging from prose to poetry, comic books to young adult novels, fiction, and nonfiction.

Authors who participated this year included Jason Reynolds (Stunt Boy, Miles Morales: Spider-Man, Patina, Ghost), Roxane Gay (Hunger, Bad Feminist, Difficult Women), journalist Linda Villarosa (Under the Skin: Racism, Inequality and the Health of a Nation), A.J. Verdelle (Miss Chloe) and Mateo Askaripour (Black Buck).

The Last Poet’s Abiodun Oyewole closed the festival with a listening session of his last album, “Gratitude,” and a conversation with Exonared Five member and author of Better, Not Bitter: Living on Purpose in the Pursuit of Racial Justice, Yusef Salaam.
