During the holy month of Ramadan, millions of Muslims gather at mosques to pray and break their fast together, but this year the coronavirus has made it impossible, with many Muslim African immigrant New Yorkers confined at home with their family or by themselves.
Africa in Harlem invited Imam Elhadj A. Barry to give Muslim African New Yorkers advice on how to best honor this month while dealing with these challenging times.
Imam Elhadj A. Barry holds a Master in Chaplaincy and an MBA in Health Care Leadership. He is currently the full-time chaplain for the City of New York. Elhadj Barry also teaches Quran and Islamic studies to both adults and children in the community. He memorized the entire Quran and holds a certificate of hafiz.
